Acacia cyclops, or Rooikrans, has bird dispersed seeds, a dispersal type which few fynbos shrubs have. The seeds are able to germinate readily and the juvenile period is only about three years. These factors thus combine to give the alien species an advantage over the local shrubs, which take up to 10 years to reach the reproductive stage.
