and even rodents are involved in this important biological interaction.
Rodents are common and
predate on seeds, so it is not surprising that plants, such as
some Proteas, use them for pollination. Rodents seem to be
attracted by the yeasty odour of the inflorescences that occur
near the ground, and the sucrose-rich nectar. While drinking the
nectar, pollen attaches to their noses and is transferred to the
next plant they visit.
