Important Notice for INforEEP users: 23 October 2000

As you may have noted, a substantial amount of time has elapsed since we have last posted any resources or reports to this site. The reason for this is that the INforEEP study has been conducting fieldwork to satisfy the research component of the project. This includes the administration of a survey to explore issues regarding the use of the Internet in EE, face-to-face interviews with stakeholders and participation in important EE gatherings. These gatherings include:

  • The Annual Conference of the Environmental Education Association of Southern Africa (EEASA), where the paper entitled 'Embracing opportunities for 'internetworking' in resource development within EE' was presented. Venue: University of Swaziland, July 2000.

  • The 3rd meeting of the EE Friends informal group where a talk was delivered entitled 'In Search for Opportunities for the Production and Evaluation of Web based Environmental Information'. Further ideas emerged on the use of the Internet in resource development. Venue: Environmental Education and Resources Unit at the University of the Western Cape, August 2000.

  • A Resource and Materials Development short course at the Environmental Education Unit of Rhodes University, where further observations were made on the potential of using electronic networking technology in EE. An important outcome of this gathering is an initiative which will develop a handbook of ideas on using the Internet effectively in EE. Venue: Grahamstown, September 2000.

  • The International Human Dimensions Workshop of Global Environmental Change (IHDW) 2000, where a short talk was delivered on 'The use of Information and Communication Technology within Coastal Education'. Venue: Gustav-Stressman Institute, Bonn, Germany.

  • The 4rth meeting of the EE Friends informal group which reflected on two audio-visual resources: one on 'biodiversity' and the other on the CMC's Youth Environmental School. Opportunities arose for the development on on-line content covering aspects of the Tygerberg Nature Reserve. Venue: the Tygerberg Nature Reserve, Cape Town, October 2000.

In addition, a seminar exploring current findings of the INforEEP study has been scheduled for 14:00 on 10-11-00, at the School of Mathematics and Science Education (University of the Western Cape). A conference on 'Hazards, Risks and Disasters: International Perspectives' will be attended on 6/7 October in Pretoria to consider the role of EE and resource development processes in disaster management / mitigation programmes.

A detailed report on all of these events together with the relevant presentation / academic material per event will be adapted for display at this website. Other EE resources have been submitted by education service providers and are now also being prepared for this site.
