Some of the projects that EnviroEds has undertaken

1. Writing projects:
a) Land degradation in South Africa
This
is a popular version of a report on land degradation produced in 1999 by the National
Botanical Institute and the Programme for Land and Agrarian Studies. This book is
currently in production, and should be available by September 2000. For further

b) The history of the Environmental Education Curriculum
Initiative (EECI)
A
referenced summary of the development of the Environmental Education Policy and Curriculum
Initiatives, 1992-1999. This report provides a brief overview of the EEPI and EECI
processes and is a companion to an extensive collection of source documents that will be
made available to researchers wishing to investigate aspects of these environmental
education processes. The report is currently being edited and the collections of source
documents compiled by Dr Heila Lotz of the Gold Fields Environmental Education Service

2. Learning Programme and
Resource Material development:
a) Exploring assessment
A
workshop presented in collaboration with the Wildlife & Environment Society of
Southern Africa at the Knysna Elephant Park, March 2000.
b) Plants
in our environment
This
programme is being developed in collaboration with the Southern Cape Herbarium in George
and teachers from the southern Cape. A resource for teachers will be produced during the
second half of the year, providing ideas for teachers wishing to develop Foundation Phase
learning programmes that focus on plants of the southern Cape.
c) Cape Flats Flora conservation priorities
The
Cape Metropolitan Council and Botanical Society of South Africa are conducting a
feasibility study to determine whether there is a need for an educational poster and
workbook dealing with the indigenous flora of the Cape Flats. A workshop will be held at
the University of the Western Cape on 14 June to discuss this. Click here for further
