This website is presently being redeveloped from scratch to take consideration
of the latest developments regarding the systematics and ecology of
corallines. Some areas will be under modification from time to time,
but we should be finished rebuilding by June 2001.

Coralline
red algae are a poorly
known group of marine organisms. Yet, a close examination
reveals that they are simple and easily understood. They are also a
group
of marine plants of considerable ecological importance, especially in
the construction of coral reefs. |

This
website is a general introduction to the biology of coralline algae, and
includes pointers to the latest family, subfamily and generic delimitations.
Graphics and interactivity are now included where they improve clarity.
In developing graphics, I have tried to reduce the number of images from
publications of fellow 'corallinologists', but some are inevitiable. If
you see an image from one of your publications, and you don't want it to
appear here, please let me know and
I will take it out. |
