Lithothamnion prolifer is a highly branched crustose species that occurs in caves, under overhangs in shallow water, and in the open on the deep outer reef slope. I have specimens that form rhodoliths in shallow water in Kiribati, but I have not seen this species as rhodoliths anywhere else. |
